A Ton of Anime News Landed During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, indulging in delicious food, and employing patience techniques to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you were able to do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy news items surfaced during the festive period, and should you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they are probably mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two
Immediately following the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
